KILIM GEOFOREST PARK

LANGKAWI, MALAYSIA

Shot in a 'fly on the wall' documentary style, with a young western traveler and a local boatman exploring the geopark without paying attention to the camera, the film harnesses the power of authentic moments experienced by real-life people.

Steering away from interpretative narratives and subtitles, the film speaks a universal language of emotions and naturally commands the viewers' attention needed to give a personal meaning to what they see.

A complex soundscape with 3D ambient recordings, amplified location sounds and thoughtfully selected music that triggers emotions, conveys a multi-dimensional sense of place that effectively fuels the travelers' desire to experience a place firsthand.

A spellbinding boat-discovery of the Kilim Geoforest Park declared in 2007 the first UNESCO GEOPARK in Southeast Asia.

A river flanked by giant limestone formations with cycad dinosaur plants deeply rooted in the crevices of ancient rocks. Hidden lagoons anxiously guarded by white-bellied sea eagles and brahminy kites. A labyrinth of secret water channels winding their way through dense mangrove forests that teem with prehistoric reptiles, macaque monkeys, venomous snakes, and the bizarre mudskippers. Mysterious caves with stalagmites and stalactites echoing the sounds of bats as they get ready for their nightly hunt . . .
